The Usages Of Devices In Combatting Parkinson's Disease

In order to pinpoint the methods that a parkinson's disease device and its usage can benefit a patient, it is needed to define the disease itself and how patients are affected by it. One of the most focused  documentations regarding the disease was done in 1817 by the British apothecary James Parkinson when he released An Essay on the Shaking Palsy, and later the disease was named after him in 1865 by William Sanders and later by the French neurologist Jean – Martin Charcot.

Still, documentations regarding the disease have been done for centuries, way before James Parkinson. One of the earliest documentations regarding the disease is found in a papyrus dating back to the 12th century BC, and Claudius Galenus, a Greek physician who lived during the times of the Roman Empire had also mentioned a disease that exhibited tremors that were occurring during rest and changes in a patient’s posture.

The cause of the disease is unknown, and, as mentioned above, its earlier symptoms include tremor, described by some as if “counting money”, movement of the patient being slowed and difficulties with walking, and spasticity. Methods to combat the disease have also been discovered, and although no definite treatment has been found as of now, the usage of a parkinson's disease device is a common method to either show the signs and intensity of the disease, or to counteract its symptoms.
